GLP-1 medications have transformed obesity treatment and created a booming market for virtual healthcare companies. What started as a relatively small group of online weight-loss clinics has grown into an industry spanning consumer telehealth, chronic disease management, and employer-sponsored healthcare.
It's not hard to understand why. Medications like Wegovy and Zepbound have dramatically improved what's possible with medical weight loss, but accessing treatment can still be expensive and complicated. Virtual care companies have stepped in to make these treatments easier to access, while offering wrap-around services like nutrition counseling, medication management, and ongoing support.
In our 2025 review of 39 virtual GLP-1 platforms, we found that 44% were venture-backed and 66% offered compounded GLP-1 medications. We also found considerable variation in clinical oversight, prescribing practices, and ongoing patient support.
Many of the companies prescribing GLP-1s today aren't exclusively focused on weight loss. Broader telehealth platforms like Ro, Hims & Hers, LifeMD, Sesame, and PlushCare have added weight-loss medications to their existing services. Others, like Midi Health, 9amHealth, and Vida Health, offer GLP-1s as part of broader women's health or chronic disease management programs.
For this list, we're focusing on startups whose core business is obesity, weight management, or closely related metabolic care.
To qualify, companies must:
Be headquartered in the United States.
Focus primarily on obesity, weight management, or related metabolic conditions.
Offer virtual medical care, including GLP-1 prescribing when clinically appropriate.
Be privately held and have raised venture capital.
Be ranked by total publicly reported venture funding, rather than revenue or valuation.
One important caveat: private companies don't regularly disclose funding or valuations, so some figures may be incomplete or several years old. Funding also doesn't necessarily reflect a company's size, profitability, or quality of care.
Below are 10 of the largest virtual weight-loss startups, based on publicly reported funding.
